Ydalia M. Genao
Board President
Ydalia M. Genao is the President of the Union City Board of Education. She is a graduate of James Ferris High School and Hudson County Community College, where she received a degree in Early Childhood Education. Ydalia is a former substitute teacher.
She is the mother of a child in the Union City School District and says her hero is her father, “because he taught me to believe in myself.” It is the same advice she offers to students: “Believe in yourself, be respectful and honest.”
She is an employee of the New Jersey State Legislature. In her spare time, she likes to exercise, read and spend time with her family.
Her favorite non-fiction book is “Little Prince” because she says it “teaches you the concept of love, friendship, and responsibility, and it’s a great reflection on the most important things in life.”
