Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Union City School District’s number-one priority is keeping all students and staff safe and healthy.
New Jersey is reporting record-high COVID-19 case rates. As of the week ending December 25, 2021, three N.J. Regions (Northwest, Northeast and Central East) have very high (red) COVID-19 Activity Levels (CALI). As of January 6, 2022, all of New Jersey’s counties have turned Red, signaling a very high virus spread.
Beginning immediately, the Board has approved a Test-to-Play Initiative, which will serve as an extra layer of protection to prevent the spread of COVID-19, through our schools.
To participate in any in person extracurricular activities, students, coaches and/or advisors, REGARDLESS OF VACCINATION STATUS, shall be tested, once per week for COVID-19.
- Each and every student and coach involved in any sport shall present for testing by Praxis Screening, no later than Saturday, February 5, 2022, at the Mother Seton School (times and address below), so that test results will be available to the Union City Board of Education by the deadline of Monday, February 7, 2022.
- Each and every student and advisor involved in any in-person extracurricular activity shall present for testing by Praxis Screening, no later than Saturday, February 12, 2022, at the Mother Seton School (times and address below), so that test results will be available to the Union City Board of Education by the deadline of Monday, February 14, 2022.
- Thereafter, each and every student and coach or advisor involved in any sport or in person extracurricular activity, shall present for testing by Praxis Screening at the Mother Seton School one time per week, until further notice.
COVID-19 screening testing of students and staff who participate in any in person sports or extracurricular activities, regardless of vaccination status, will be conducted once weekly. These students and staff shall present for weekly testing on either Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., or on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Testing will be conducted by Praxis Screening at the Mother Seton School site, located at 1501 New York Avenue, Union City.
Also, please note that for ease of reporting and accuracy of results, testing shall be conducted by Praxis Screening at the Mother Seton School at the aforementioned times only (the Mother Seton site is also used by other testing facilities that are not sponsored by the District). Private doctor, other city sites, and/or home tests will not be acceptable.
In the event of a positive test result, the parent/guardian and the school district will be notified and all COVID-19 quarantine protocol will be implemented.
Students shall be accompanied by a parent or guardian, unless the parent or guardian provides written consent for the ongoing testing. The registration and consent form can be accessed on the ucboe.us website under Test-to-Play Initiative, or can be accessed by clicking on this link: https://www.praxis-screening.com/union-city-student-testing-english-consent/. In addition, a hard copy of the registration and consent form is also available from your child’s coach or activity advisor, but you are strongly encouraged to fill out the forms online, which will save time at the testing site. There is no additional cost for this testing.

Estimados padres y tutores,
La prioridad número uno del Distrito Escolar de Union City es mantener a todos los estudiantes y al personal seguros y saludables.
Nueva Jersey está reportando niveles de casos positivos de COVID-19 muy altos. A partir de la semana que terminó el 25 de diciembre de 2021, tres regiones de N.J. (noroeste, noreste y centro este) tienen niveles de actividad de COVID-19 (CALI) muy altos (rojo). A partir del 6 de enero de 2022, todos los condados de Nueva Jersey se han vuelto rojos, lo que indica una propagación del virus muy alta.
Con efecto inmediato, la Junta ha aprobado una Iniciativa de Prueba para Jugar, que servirá como un nivel adicional de protección para evitar la propagación de COVID-19, a través de nuestras escuelas.
Para participar en cualquier actividad extracurricular en persona, los estudiantes, entrenadores y/o asesores, INDEPENDIENTEMENTE DEL ESTADO DE VACUNACIÓN, deberán hacerse la prueba, una vez por semana para COVID-19.
- Todos y cada uno de los estudiantes y entrenadores involucrados en cualquier deporte deberán presentarse para la prueba de Praxis Screening, a más tardar el sábado 5 de febrero de 2022, en la Escuela Mother Seton (horas y dirección a continuación), para que los resultados de la prueba estén disponibles para la Junta de Educación de Union City antes de la fecha límite del lunes 7 de febrero de 2022.
